Double Dipsea Hike
We will be hiking the famous Dipsea Trail in Marin, rain or shine. This 7
mile trail is extremely difficult, with lots of rocks, roots, slippery stairs, mud and two
major hills filled with poison oak. There are plenty of unmarked side trails, so expect to
use your compass and map reading skills. To make this even more challenging we will be
hiking the trail from Mill Valley to Stinson Breach and then ... turn around and hike the
trail BACK to Mill Valley! That's 14 miles with about 4,500 feet of cumulative climb. I
expect that we should be done in about 9 hours, give or take an hour.
It's going to be lots of fun. The views will be spectacular! Because of the difficulty of this hike and in the interest of safety, I am requesting that anyone (scouts and especially adults) doing this hike must have hiked a minimum of two 10 milers AND have scoutmaster approval. I recommend, that if you plan to hike the "Double Dipsea" you must start preparing now.
